a thanksgiving prayer...

A Thanksgiving Day Prayer
Scott Wesemann

Lord, so often times, as any other day
When we sit down to our meal and pray

We hurry along and make fast the blessing
Thanks, amen. Now please pass the dressing

We're slaves to the olfactory overload
We must rush our prayer before the food gets cold

But Lord, I'd like to take a few minute more
To really give thanks to what I'm thankful for

For my family, my health, a nice soft bed
My friends, my freedom, a roof over my head

I'm thankful right now to be surrounded by those
Whose lives touch me more than they'll ever possibly know

Thankful Lord, that You've blessed me beyond measure
Thankful that in my heart lives life's greatest treasure

That You, dear Jesus, reside in that place
And I'm ever so grateful for Your unending grace

So please, heavenly Father, bless this food You've provided
And bless each and every person invited

Amen!

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

I Thank Thee
Jane Crewdson

O Thou whose bounty fills my cup,
With every blessing meet!
I give Thee thanks for every drop—
The bitter and the sweet.

I praise Thee for the desert road,
And for the riverside;
For all Thy goodness hath bestowed,
And all Thy grace denied.

I thank Thee for both smile and frown,
And for the gain and loss;
I praise Thee for the future crown
And for the present cross.

I thank Thee for both wings of love
Which stirred my worldly nest;
And for the stormy clouds which drove
Me, trembling, to Thy breast.

I bless Thee for the glad increase,
And for the waning joy;
And for this strange, this settled peace
Which nothing can destroy.

we have so much to be thankful for this year.

God has provided for us when we wondered how He would.

we have a beautiful, perfect, 12 week old baby boy, who is growing every day.

we have family and friends who love us and lavish it upon us everyday.

we have had struggles and hard times, when others have had none, and in them we have grown.

we are blessed beyond measure, with faith, and health, and love, and peace, and joy.

we have a God who hears our prayers and answers, who desires to hear our voice.

we have a God who suffered and died for us, so that we may live.

we can walk, and see, and smell, and hear, and taste, and feel.

we can live.

we have so much to be thankful for this year, and every year.
