baby carter...

at the beginning of january, my friend kendra gave birth to baby carter, 9 weeks early.

kendra was one of my frist friends i made at college. she was tall and blonde, and beautiful, and lived two doors down from me. i instantly gravated towards her. i tend to gravatate toward beautiful people, call me shallow, i won't deny it. she also turned out to be one of the nicest people i had ever met. she genuinely liked everyone. i had never met anyone who acctually liked everyone they met before. but she did. she quickly became one of my closest freinds. she worked very hard in school, she studied hard, and she encouraged me to do the same (too bad that encouragement didn't really stick). every boy at grace wanted to date her, i am not even exaggerating. i was the socially akward, kind of chunky friend, but i didn't mind. i liked her just the same.

kendra and tim were married the weekend after matthew and i were. they built a brand new beautiful house and moved into it about the same time matthew and i moved into our own. and they were so excited to be parents. she glowed from the moment she was pregnant.

9 weeks early, she started having labor pains... and they refused to go away. a trip to the hospital, and a few hours later, she was wheeled into an emergency c-section. carter was born, the cord wrapped tightly around his neck.

9 weeks early, babay carter knew he had to get out of there. if she hadn't of had labor pains, she wouldn't have gone to the hospital, and they wouldn't of known that baby carter was in distress, and the outcome of this story could be very different. baby's can't survive with a cord wrapped around their neck. i choose to belive that baby carter knew something wasn't quite right, and he knew he had to get out of there. he is a miracle.

he was born at almost 4 pounds. he will be in the nicu for quite some time yet, and hearing kendra talk about her son, melts my heart. she is working and fighting as much as carter is. she carries her pump and a cooler with her wherever she goes. she spends hours and hours and hours with him everyday, in the hospital, holding his tiny body close to hers. she is such a good mom, and i love to hear about it, and see pictures, and imagine her with her son. he is so lucky to have such a great mom, he is so loved and prayed for.

but kendra and tim and baby carter, need a lot more prayer. it will be weeks before he can come home, and while he has come miles, he still has miles to go. mom and dad are fighting and working and missing their baby at home with them. so, if you think of it, pray for kendra and tim and carter. this miracle baby will continue to be a miracle, a blessing, and i am sure there are great great things in store for him.

  1. One of my coworkers had her son about 8 weeks early. He was born just a little over 2 pounds. So tiny! But you'd never know it now, the feisty 2 year old that he is.

God is a God of miracles. I'll keep your friend and her family in my prayers.
