i heart books...

i love books.

i love everything about books.

i love the smell of the books.

i love the feel of books between my fingers.

i love the different fonts and scripts used in books.

i love reading the back of books, and the inside covers.

i love trying to guess what the author looks like before flipping the book over and seeing that staged promo picture.

i love to study the covers of books, try to figure them out.

i love the book store.

i love barnes and noble the best.

i love reading the first page, and the last page of a book before i buy it.

i love stacking books; largest on bottom, smallest on top.

i love having books with me, everywhere. in my purse, in my car, in my desk. i take them everywhere.

i love falling asleep while reading.

i love getting lost in a book. lost in a story. lost in a dream. lost in someone else's life.

i love not being able to put a book down.

i love the thoughts that come with reading.

i love how reading makes me feel.

i love romance. mysteries. fantasy. action. historical fiction. thrillers. biographies. memoirs. classics. fairy tales. myths. poetry. self help. comedy. mythology. spiritual. christian. anything really.

i am dying to read something. anything. everything.

i hate buying a book, getting it home, and being disappointed. it is a waste of time, money, and brain power. (and don't tell me to go to the library... it's not going to happen. not that i have anything against libraries, i just... mostly have things against libraries.)

so that is where you come in. i need to know...

what are 3 of your favorite books.

what are 3 books you are reading this summer.

what are 3 books someone else recommended to you.

don't let me down... give me a million. i am counting on all of you.

"A book is the only place in which you can examine a fragile thought without breaking it, or explore an explosive idea without fear it will go off in your face. It is one of the few havens remaining where a man's mind can get both provocation and privacy."
Edward P. Morgan

"Anyone who says they have only one life to live must not know how to read a book."
Author Unknown

"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers."
Charles W. Eliot

"I know every book of mine by its smell, and I have but to put my nose between the pages to be reminded of all sorts of things."
George Robert Gissing

"Lord! when you sell a man a book you don't sell just twelve ounces of paper and ink and glue - you sell him a whole new life. Love and friendship and humour and ships at sea by night - there's all heaven and earth in a book, a real book."
Christopher Morley

"If there's a book you really want to read but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it."
Toni Morrison

  1. if you want a good memoir, "A piece of cake" by Cupcake Brown. Certain parts will make you cringe, but it's excellent.
Another memoir: "The Glass Castle" by Jeanette Walls.
For fiction, I think you'd love "Valley of the Dolls."
P.S. You need to come over and check out my library.

Have you ever read any of Francine Rivers' books? She writes Christian fiction -- Redeeming Love, Leota's Garden, Scarlet Thread, to name just a few. You can read the reviews of these and her many other books at Amazon, but I think you would enjoy her books. My other favorite authors are Rosamunde Pilcher and Maeve Binchy. Love their books!

I also love your blog. Found it through your MIL's blog, which I also love. You two both have a way with words and your photography is wonderful!

Hi, I read Atonement Child by Francine Rivers this summer and I really liked it. I also really love Jodi Piccoult right now. She has written the Pact, Nineteen Minutes, Picture Perfect... they are all good. They are kind of lawyerish and mysteries. lol.

  5. I love books too! Remember Romania when we read Harry Potter and then when we were roomies and we went to Barnes and Noble to get the newest Harry Potter the day it came out? Good times! I miss you a lot!

  7. I would highly suggest Robyn Carr's books. They're all a series, so start with the Grace River Valley series and work up to the Virgin River. Fantastic! If you're feeling historical fiction, I can't recommend Philippa Gregory enough. She wrote The Other Boleyn Girl, which they made into a movie. Her books are long, but I can't ever put one down after I start it.

  8. Not in any particular category, except that they're great summer reading*:

    Swapping Lives - Jane Green
    Saving Graces - Patricia Gaffney
The Rest of Her Life - Laura Moriarty
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - Jonathan Safran Foer
Amy and Isabelle - Elizabeth Strout
    Shanghai Girls - Lisa See

*Disclaimer: a couple of these have sexual situations - Swapping Lives, Amy and Isabelle, Shanghai Girls. Just in case that bothers you. I consider myself to be a pretty wholesome person, and I was OK with knowing they were just part of the story.

  11. A fellow book lover! :)

We're huge Harry Potter fans around here (but, of course, read all of those books long ago.) I also enjoyed the Twilight series to some extent.

I like to read "fluff" books when I'm watching the kids swim at the lake in the summer. Nothing overtaxing on my mind. :)

I did read the first six books in the Redemption series (by Karen Kingsbury) and found them to be very moving.

  12. If you haven't read it before, get "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." It's one of the funniest books ever writen in the English language.

All of Amy Tan's books are wonderful. "The Joy Luck Club" and "The Kitchen God's Wife" are my favorites.
