So feel the air, feel the air, take the map and point to anywhere...

Summertime, summertime
brought me back to thinking you were mine all those times.
We laid it down and left it all behind, we were blind.
Oh, the summertime.

We could ride, we could ride.
Take my hand and watch the world go by.
Laugh or cry, well we need to try, get off the line, time to fly.
Oh, the summertime.

Go on ahead and let it fade away.
No looking back you know the past will stay.
It's you and me, we could get out of here.
Jump in and go and we could drive for years.
We could feel alive...

Here we are, here we are,
windows down we see a falling star.
Stop the car.
Waiting, nothing but our beating hearts, going far.
Oh, the summertime.

So feel the air, feel the air,
take the map and point to anywhere.
I don't care. Fingers through your hair,
the sky I've seen, blue and green.
Oh, the summertime.

Go on ahead and let it fade away.
No looking back you know the past will stay.
It's you and me, we could get out of here.
Jump in and go and we could drive for years.
We could feel alive...

Driving away, leaving it all behind.
Driving away
Driving away, and leaving it all behind.
Driving away
Driving away (just driving away), leaving it all behind.
Driving away, (just driving away), yeah.
Just Driving away (just driving away), leaving it all behind.
I'm just driving away, yeah (GO).

"Summertime"

summer has officially made it to omaha. i have no less than 4 bug bites, yesterday the air was so heavy it was hard to breathe, and i just got my summer short cut, okay that doesn't usually mark summer, but was one of those changes i had been aching for.

summer reminds me of sitting at the pool all day thriving on frozen grapes, bing cherries, popsicles, and lemonade. as i got older i also thrived on the attention from the boys at the pool. sorry, i had to admit it, i can not tell a lie. it reminds me of flip flops, and rarely changing out of swimsuits. it reminds me of diving sticks balancing on the bottom of the pool, and the smell of banana boat sunscreen. it reminds me of catching fireflies, and sleeping under the stars. summer is fresh sweet corn, watermelon, and barbecues. it's filled with bike rides, camping, and fishing trips. it's thunderstorms that keep you all night, praying that it will pass soon. it's fields of corn, driving with the windows down, and long family road trips.

summer is lazy and care free. it's simple, no bother, and fun fun fun. summer is for dreaming, not working, summer is for love. summer is for children, and stay at home mom's. summer is not what it used to be. i still go to work everyday. my days hanging out by the pool are long past. i don't get a stellar tan, in fact i have to wear a sweater to work. today i even thought about putting on my winter coat, it is seriously below freezing in there. although summer is not the same as it used to be, it still holds a sense of magic and wonder. is it the longer days? is it the warming sun rays? is it the leaves on trees and the green green grass? is it the blue color of the sky, or the baby animals prancing around fields? is it the electricity left in the air from last nights storms? is it the fireflies glowing from inside a mason jar, sitting silently by a bed? is it the sweet corn and watermelon and bing cherries? is it the kids singing and shouting in their yards, full of innocence and joy? or is it the remembrance of days past, of simpler times and easier days, that still makes summer magic?

summer is still full of magic and wonder to me, no matter the work load, the pasty skin, or the loss of seasoned innocence. and it is still filled with some of my favorite things.

hey MS - loved LOVED this post. Just had to tell you that i am the queen of oversized sunglasses - I travel with Anne Graham Lotz, Billy Graham's daughter - if you look at old photos of the Grahams, you'll see Ruth, her mom, in these GINORMOUS glasses ALL THE TIME. Then once I was with Anne and I swear these lenses went from eyebrow to lip. they were AMAZING I knew I had found my mission - to keep up. :) I just splurged on some PRESCRIPTION CK's that are dang big.... if I find some monsters, I'll send 'em your way. Check out 80's Purple online - they have 'em CHEAP.... :)

  2. I really enjoyed this post... summer is my favorite season for many of the reasons you listed as well as a few of my own. My birthday, the warm evenings as the sun sets, going to the county fair... and many more!
